Smart Square HMH Login, Scheduling & App Guides
Smart Square is the scheduling system Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) staff use to check shifts, pick up open shifts, swap shifts and request time off. This is an unofficial, verified guide — it does not replace the official portal, and it never asks for your login details. Use the official button below to sign in.
Go to the official Smart Square login →You will sign in on meridian.smart-square.com — your HMH Network ID and password, plus Duo if prompted. Accounts are set up by HMH IT; there is no self sign-up on the official portal.
Sign in in 30 seconds
- Open the official login (button above).
- Choose “Continue to SmartSquare” (or “Alternate Login” if that is the option you normally use).
- Enter your HMH Network ID — do not use your full email unless your normal sign-in asks for it — and your password.
- Approve Duo if prompted, then you land on your schedule.
What is Smart Square?
Smart Square is staff-scheduling software for hospitals and health systems. Instead of paper rotas and phone trees, a department's schedule lives in one place: managers publish the rota, and team members sign in to see their shifts, claim extra ones, trade with colleagues and ask for time off. The software was built by Avantas, later became part of AMN Healthcare, and is now owned by symplr, which develops it today. Other well-known scheduling products exist — QGenda is one — but they are separate systems and your HMH login will not work on them.
At Hackensack Meridian Health, Smart Square serves one of the largest workforces in New Jersey health care — 18 hospitals, more than 500 locations and over 36,000 team members. With that many people working shifts around the clock, the schedule is not a nice-to-have: it decides who is on the floor, tonight, in every unit. That is why a forgotten password or a mistyped app setting is more than an annoyance here — and why this site exists.
Who this site is for
If you wear an HMH badge, this site was written for you: nurses, techs, support staff and managers across the network who just need the scheduling system to work. New starters use it to find their first login; long-serving staff use it when a password expires, the app refuses to connect, or a rota looks mysteriously empty. Every guide is short, step-by-step and checked against the official portal — because at 5:40 in the morning, nobody needs an essay, they need their shift times.
The guides
Smart Square HMH Login: Step-by-Step Guide — the full sign-in walkthrough: what you need before you start, the desktop steps, the phone route, and why “Continue to SmartSquare” is the button most staff want.
Smart Square Go App: Download & First-Time Setup — the right app (there are look-alikes), the official store links, and the organisation-URL step — meridian.smart-square.com — that almost every other guide skips and most setup failures trace back to.
Forgot Your Password? Reset Guide — the one official reset page, what to do when the reset email never arrives, and the difference between a forgotten password and a locked account.
Login Not Working? 9 Fixes — a checklist in the right order: wrong address, wrong ID, wrong button, Duo problems, browser loops, app typos, lockouts — and the point at which it stops being your problem and becomes support's.
How to View Your Schedule — where your rota lives on the website and in the app, and why an “empty” schedule usually just means your department has not published that period yet.
New HMH Employee? Your First Login — the new-starter walkthrough: why you never create an account (HMH IT does), what your Network ID is, the Duo step, and setting up the app on day one instead of shift morning.
How to Pick Up Open Shifts — where open shifts appear, how claiming works, and the step everyone forgets: a request is not a booking until the shift shows in your schedule.
How to Swap or Trade a Shift — swap vs trade vs giveaway, the five steps, manager approval, and the rule that protects you: until your schedule changes, the shift is still yours.
How to Request Time Off — submitting dates, pending vs approved, why requests get denied, and why a sick call-out is never a time-off request.
What Is Smart Square HMH? — the explainer: what the system is, who owns it (Avantas, AMN, now symplr), what the HMH part means, and the clone-site myths corrected one by one.
Stay safe: three rules that never change
- One official address. Smart Square for HMH lives only at meridian.smart-square.com. If another page asks for your Network ID and password, close it.
- Your password stays yours. This site has no login form and will never ask for your password — not in a form, not by email, not ever.
- One real support number. 732-776-4442, Monday–Friday 7am–5pm. Clone sites publish a fake number; do not call it, and never read your password to anyone who asks.
How we check our facts
The Smart Square corner of the internet is crowded with copy-paste sites repeating each other's mistakes — invented phone numbers, sign-up flows that do not exist, apps that were retired years ago. We do it differently: every address, number and step on this site is checked against the official portal and the official app listings before it is published, every page carries the date it was last verified, and reader corrections go straight into the next check. If you ever spot something that has changed, tell us — accuracy is the entire point of this site.
If login fails — quick links
Forgot password? Use the official reset page.
Login not working? Work through the 9 fixes.
On your phone? Get Smart Square Go (the current app, by symplr) and enter meridian.smart-square.com as the organisation URL — that step is the one most guides skip.
Real HMH support
Call 732-776-4442, Monday–Friday 7am–5pm, for login issues. Do not use the 201 number some clone sites publish — that is not the real HMH number.

Frequently asked questions
What is Smart Square HMH?
The employee scheduling system used by Hackensack Meridian Health staff, made by Avantas and now owned by symplr. Staff use it to check shifts, pick up open shifts, swap shifts and request time off.
Where do I log in to Smart Square HMH?
Only at meridian.smart-square.com. This site only links there — it has no login form of its own and never asks for your password.
Can I create my own Smart Square account?
No. HMH IT provisions accounts for staff; there is no self sign-up. If you are a new employee and cannot sign in, contact your manager or HMH IT.
Which app do I download for Smart Square?
Smart Square Go (the current app, by symplr). In the app, enter meridian.smart-square.com as the organisation URL, then sign in with your usual HMH credentials.
Who do I call if I am locked out of Smart Square?
Call 732-776-4442, Monday to Friday 7am-5pm, for login issues.
Is this the official Smart Square website?
No. This is an independent, unofficial guide. The official portal is meridian.smart-square.com — the only place you should ever enter your Network ID and password. This site has no login form and never asks for your password.
Why does my Smart Square schedule look empty?
Usually because your department has not published that period's rota yet — blank dates mean unpublished, not no shifts. Also check you are viewing the right dates and signed in via Continue to SmartSquare.
Can this site reset my password or unlock my account?
No — only HMH can do that. Use the official password reset page on meridian.smart-square.com, or call HMH support on 732-776-4442, Monday to Friday 7am-5pm. Anyone who offers to reset it for you elsewhere is not official.
